This really is not an issue on modern machines. Don't worry about it
:) The best power-up/down cycle is the one most suited to you.
There is no problem leaving a PC running for months at a time
(especially under linux =P), nor is there a problem turning it on and
off several times a day.
Back in the days when hard drives had more in common with washing
machines, and power supplies were not to be trusted, things were
different, but the old myth continues.
However, if you don't have supreme power management, and won't be
using the PC for a few hours, turning it off would obviously save
electricity ;)
