CVS question

Here's a CVS newbie question.

I'm going to try to get the cvs and compile it soon, But
there doesn't seem to be any way to specify a branch. I 
thought there would be a 1.2 branch and a 2.0 branch and
who knows what else. If I follow the directions on the 
web page what will I get? the absolute latest and greatest?
