I just installed Enlightenment on RedHat 6.1 to try this out. It does
not work here. The middle button can drag windows within a desktop or
across panes of a single desktop, but not across desktops. I suspect the
terminology is confusing this discussion. I have each virtual desktop
set at 1x1 screen. I suspect that when you have success at this, you
are dragging across a single nxm-paned virtual desktop, not across
desktops themselves. The E pager can do it, of course, but not the
gnome one.

What I've not gotten an explanation for is why there can't be some
common protocol for multiple desktop window managers. The fact that
there is no clear standard is causing me trouble not just with gnome,
but with other programs that get all fouled up because no two window
managers handle the mapping of multiple desktops in the same way.
