Hello Al and others,
By remarkable coincidence I was having the same problem this morning
that you describe (flashing gmc and desktop icons, but other things run
fine). I read the thread, and tried to delete the ~/.gnome directory
(rm -r .gnome), but that did not fix the problem. Nor was I able to
kill gmc process, since, as you described, it kept dying and restarting
with a new pid. So, I followed the advice of getting a new rpm, and it
worked! Thank goodness.
Details:
I am running RH6.0 on Pentium 133.
downloaded the gmc and mc rpms and did
rpm -U <package-name>
you need to do the mc package first, then the gmc one.
Everything works now.
Incidentally, I am accessing the server from my Win95 machine using
VNC. Not sure if that played any role in this or not...
HTH anyone else...
