RE: Odd sound problems

Join the crowd. There's something terribly wrong with esound, that's for
sure.

Subject: Odd sound problems

Suddenly today, I find that certain sounds are very distorted. Mp3's
which I play with XMMS 1.0.1 and the GNOME system sounds are very
distorted, while I can play wavs with something like KDE media player,
and the system sounds for XFce seem to work fine. Also wavs played with
XMMS using the OSS free sounds drivers sound fine but the using the
esound output sounds terrible.

The only change I've made since the sounds worked is that I upgraded
from XFree86 3.3.3.1 to XFree86 3.3.6 however I'm not sure what that
would have to do with sound quality under certain but not all
conditions.

Other sounds that have always sounded bad are embedded midi files which
I play using the Plugger plugin for netscape which calls upon Timidity++

to play the midi's.

If anyone know of any possible solutions, please respond.

Thanks

Jonathan
