Gnome 1.1.2: Another bonehead's report

Could someone tell me what the mysterious applet is that appears next
to the tasklist?

I think it's the status applet, but I'm not sure. There's no "About..."
and it doesn't seem to do anything :-(

Apart from that, I love the new default desktop. Oh, and rock solid so
far on Solaris. Yay!!
