capplet lib not there

Hello,

  I'm trying to install Gnome from scratch on a friend's machine. I've
installed all the required libraries from the get-gnome web page from
source (apart from gdk-pixbuf, which seems to need gnome-core?).
However, when I try and configure gnome-core it complains that it can't
find the library capplet.

  Typing gnome-config shows that capplet isn't there, but I thought this
was installed by gnome-lib-1.2.8?? Can anyone tell me where I can get it
from?
