Xscreensaver problem with contol center

Hi,

I've just subscribed to the list having checked the archives for the last
six months with no results for my problem. (I did find one person who had
written in requesting help, but no answer followed.) If anyone can point me
in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I am Not a programmer, but
a regular user who's learning all this stuff on his own, so please forgive
my naivete.

I run Debian Woody which I just upgraded to off a fresh Potato install. I
have all the basic Gnome packages installed, AFAIK, as well as Xscreensaver.
I liked using Gnome's control of that and my monitor's power-down from the
control center, but I have discovered that the panel for the screensaver
settings in the control center doesn't exist anymore. I get a blank when I
click on "screensaver."

I tried running the screensaver applet from a terminal window but it crashed
with an initialization error. Does it _require_ arguments? Is this the
proper approach to addressing the blank control center page?

I am using ver. 3.3.6 of X out of Woody.

It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he
doesn't really need a college education, for he can learn them from
books. The value of an education in a liberal arts college is not the
learning of many facts but the training of the mind to thinking--something
that cannot be learned from books. Albert Einstein
