Re: Slow GNOME on Mandrake 7.0

I find that Enlightenment starts up and then it takes the panel forever
(about 2-4)
minutes to start up and get all the applets running. Is this the same
behaviour that
you were witnessing?

I thought that I would try using the GNOME 1.1.8 unstable distribution and
see if
anything changes. Unfortunately, I get the following errors when tryying
to build the
packages (keeping in mind that I already have gdk-pixbuf 0.6.0 already
installed on
my system):

Executing: %build
+ umask 022
+ cd /usr/src/RPM/BUILD
+ cd gnome-core-1.1.8.1
+ '[' -f configure.in ']'
+ libtoolize --copy --force
+ CFLAGS=-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti -pipe -s
-mpentium -mcpu=pentium -march=pentium -ffast-math
-fexpensive-optimizations -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2
-malign-functions=2 -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2
+ ./configure i586-mandrake-linux --prefix=/usr --quiet
--disable-gtkhtml-help --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib
creating cache ./config.cache
updating cache ./config.cache
loading cache ./config.cache within ltconfig
creating libtool
updating cache ./config.cache
loading cache ./config.cache
Unknown library `gdk_pixbuf'
Unknown library `gdk_pixbuf'
configure: error: GdkPixbuf library is required for the panel
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.13970 (%build)

If I can get it installed, I'll let you know if the slowness disappears.
