Nope.  If there's some entry in the user's directory that says "Don't
display this system entry" you've got it made, I think.  That could
serve to turn off display of single apps, or even entire categories.
If you only turned off apps, you would inherit any new applications,
though obviously you'd be on your own if you removed the standard
categories.
