sound errors

I just downloaded the latest 1.0.50 rpms from gurulabs and am having
trouble with sound. When I startx, I get a message box about not being
able to connect to the sound daemon. However, esd is running and I get
sound ... very strange.... the sound monitor applet isn't happy
either....
