GNU Midnight Commander 4.5.39 is released

Hello, primates with opposable thumbs,

Version 4.5.39 of the venerable Midnight Commander has been released.
This is mostly a bugfix release.  We have been battling bugs to death.
So far we have survived.  Our opposable thumbs helped squash bugs as
efficiently as possible.

* Availability:

	ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/mc/mc-4.5.39.tar.gz

* New features:

	- MC now has a new CORBA interface and a nifty `gmc-client'
          program that you can call from the command line to ask MC to
          do interesting stuff.  You can open new windows, validate
          existing windows, rescan the desktop, and make coffee (no
          espresso for now).

	- Integration with magicdev.  This is a little daemon that
          runs on behalf of the user and mounts and unmounts CD-ROMs
          and other removable media.  MC will interact with magicdev
          so that desktop icons will be created and removed as you
          insert/eject CDs.  It will also open windows for them.
          Magicdev will play music CDs automatically and do other
          nifty things.  You can get magicdev from the GNOME cvs
          repository.

* Changes in this version:

	- New Dutch translation (Gert).

	- New Portugese/Brazilian translation (Sandro).

	- Updated translations (the heroic GNOME translation team).

	- Updated man page and misc. installation issues (Norbert).

	- Updated extfs shell scripts and utility scripts (Norbert).

	- Updated user's guide (Dave).

	- Fixed column resizing in list views.  Also, this information
          is preserved across sessions (Volker -- this guy deserves a
          beer).

	- Rewrote the CORBA interface (Federico).

	- Integration with magicdev (Owen, Federico) -- see above.

	- Clear the file listings if the user does not have
          permission to read a directory (Federico).

	- Stability fixes for session management and CORBA (Owen,
          Federico).

	- Fixed ultra-nasty initialization hacks (Federico).

	- Tree behavior fixes.  It should no longer grab the mouse
          (Federico).

	- Password dialog and authentication updates for smbfs (Norbert).

	- Fixed group handling in the file properties dialog (Miguel).

	- Speed improvements for the tree view (Miguel).

	- Misc. fixes to the list of MIME-types (Jonathan).

	- Misc. fixes to pattern engine (Andrew).

	- Memory Allocation Debugger fixes (Norbert).

	- Character conversion fixes for smbfs (Norbert).


* Pending stuff:

	- Integrate Richard's patches for icon snapping and desktop
          entry edition.  These did not go in due to lack of time.

This version of the Midnight Commander is the one that will be in the
1.0.40 beta release of the GNOME desktop.  Please bang on it to find
all remaining bugs.
