Debug information and RPMs

Hi !
I have my gnome system installed using RPMs and now I'm starting to use
tarballs and build the RPM's myself.
I'd like to have the lib built with debug info. Do the RPMS built
directly with rpm -ta contain debug info?
If not, what changes do I have to do the spec files?
Anyway, I suppose I have to install the SRPM so that the debugger find
the source when tracing, correct?
