Problems with panel

Hi,

I'm having problems running panel - every time I try to execute it it
generates produces the following output:

** WARNING **: Could not get name service!

** ERROR **: file goad.c: line 1118 (goad-server-register): assertion
failed: (name-server != COBRA_OBJECT_NIL)
aborting...
Abort (core dumped)

And then quits.

I have the following components installed:

gnome-core 1.0.7
gnome-libs 1.0.9
ORBit 0.4.94
gdm 2.0beta

I would appreciate any advice,
