I installed that RPM with rpm -i strace -- and I'd have had problems if it
hadn't been a 5.2 strace, I suspect.  I haven't upgraded to RH 6 yet.  Kernel
2.0.36, and various upgrades.

Hope the log is useful.  Rpm works fine -- it's just the GUI interfaces that aren't working.  (Glint is hosed, too -- suspect time to upgrade is coming).
