link to /mnt/cdrom on desktop = weird msg, continued

Well it seems if I run gnome-session (I was just using panel & then
exec'ing E because that combo loaded up faster than gnome-session & E)
the obscure garbage msg becomes:

"Could not symlink /mnt/cdrom to /home/chaeslon/.gnome-desktop/cdrom; will
not have such a desktop icon."

I don't quite follow that error message, because the link is already
there... 

Anyone have any ideas?
