Hi Nils,
Some time ago I had the same problem with the Gnome icons. All that you can see
is some garbage, right?
Thanks to the great people here on the list, I could solve the problem!
Use:
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/X11R6/include" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/X11R6/lib" configure
--prefix=/opt/gnome
to configure gnome-libs.
Then, of course, make and make install.
