GNOME environment variables

Hello:

I solved a couple of path related problems I've been having with GNOME by
exporting the environment variable GNOMEDIR to the correct location.
However, GNOME still cannot find some help files and some pixmaps.  Are
there any other gnome environment variables that I should set to help out
gnome?  Also, are there config files where I can specify paths?
