gnome-terminal configuration

With the gnome terminal, how to I do the equivalent of having the following 
lines in the Xresources :

*VT100.Translations:  #override\
	<Key> BackSpace: string(0x7f)\n\

XTerm*visualBell:			on


I want to turn backspace into delete, not just swap them. Preferably I'd do 
this at a system wide level, but failing that is it possible to modify a large 
number of user accounts without interacting with the U.I. ?
