This may (or may not) be the problem that got a lot of airing on a redhat
list a while ago.
Check your PPP config. If you username for the connection is preceeded by
the "user" keyword, change the keyword to "name" instead. I think it tries
to access a "user" through the passwd system, which only root can do, while
a "name" it just uses as text?
Something like that - I got it working too long ago to remember precisely,
too =OZ
