Feature request: submenu hysteresis

all,

wouldn't be a good idea if menus could be traversed diagonally without
immediately selecting the items that you pass over? that's a real usability
enhancement that shouldn't be too difficult.

more specifically, what i mean is this:

say you have a hierarchical menu with two submenus:

           +-----+
	   | |
	   |*ub1>|+----------+
	   |Sub2>|| item 1   |
	   +-----+| item 2 |
	          | item 3 |
		  +----------+

the mouse position is indicated by the '*'. now if you want to select item
number three, the movement you make is usually diagonal; ie. the shortest
path from * to item 3. so the mouse pointer moves very briefly over Sub2,
and in GTK applications, this causes the Sub1 menu to disappear.

in other words, you have to move the mouse very precisely, or you lose your
target. how about implementing a miniscule delay before an expanded submenu
is discarded?

thanks!
