This works for me: Add QuickLanch to the panel and drag an application
from the menu to it. This does not crash the the system for me.

I'm using the latest rpms (1.0.9) from
http://www.inconnect.com/pub/unix/linux/redhat-6.0/contrib-updates

If you built the source yourself, perhaps you forgot to install
something ?
