can onlz ad default applets

hi all
i am using gnome (newest rpms) and suse 6.1 linux
i can onlz ad the default apps that come with the rpms but i compiled some
othe applets and when i select them unter the menu add applet nothing happens
but if i start them by hand in an eterm they werk and are included into the panel but how can i add them the usual waz what is wrong??
i dont want after everz start of X to open and eterm and start the applet and bg job it!!
would be great if you could help me
