You need to checkout them once with the right tag, and after that, you can
update as usual and will still get 1.2.x.

cvs -z3 checkout -r glib-1-2 glib
cvs -z3 checkout -r gtk-1-2 gtk+

That's what I did and it seems to be working. Are those the right tags?
