install problems

Thanks for the suggestions on former email about problems (answers:
install from root).

Still want to install gnome, and like (still) the idea of non-Gates
platforms.

Have gtk+ and glib installed, latest versions, running ./install-gnome,
the installation stops at an rpm error:
failed dependencies:
gtk+ = 1.0.6 is needed by gtk+-devel-1.0.6-3
imlib = is needed by imlib-cfgeditor-1.8-5

which config or other file is gnome installer calling ? Wonders a bit
about the gtk+ call for an old gtk+ version.

Think it would be nice with an installation faq on installing gnome,
from gtk and glib to gnome and windowsmanagers. Installed Redhat using
their installation faq, very easy and straight away to get Redhat
running. Used many hours afterwards getting the monitor right on my
laptop, but they are always a pain anyway.

There must be quite a lot "out there", who just give up entering the
world of gnome and probably ends up with using KDE.

I think it would be better for the Linux and Gnome project to get people
up running, and maybe there could be new suggestions and ideas instead.

Well this was just some thoughts from a Linux newbie.

Niels
