quit gnome

in your homedir, try mv .gnome gnome-old

start gnome

Maybe it's incompatibilities of the config files. I remember deleting my
config files after I updated.

Hope this helps, if not, it's good to have a backup of the files (hence I
don't recomment rm'ing everything right away).
