esound question (a bit OT)

This isn't exactly GNOME related, but I have a question as far as how do
I launch licq so that it uses esound? I put a launcher icon for it on
the panel, the command being "licq | esdcat" but then I realized that
esdcat only works as long as it's getting a continuous audio stream. Is
there another way to run licq (or any other program that gives off
intermittent audio) so that it can use esound? Thanks in advance!
