libesd was compiled with egcs. libc and friends were not.
Go to Rawhide, (which is presumable where you got the Gnome 1.0 rpms),
and get glibc-2.1-0.990222.i386.rpm, libstdc++-2.9.0-8.i386.rpm
ld.so-1.9.5-10.i386.rpm, and ldconfig-1.9.5-9.i386.rpm
and this should fix your problem.
