compiling applets

Hi,


Is there any documentation on how to write gnome applets ?

Also, I tried compiling the gnome applets out of CVS, but when I run
any applet that I compile, I get the following error:

[sumedh@rig slashapp]$ ./slash_applet 

Gnome-WARNING **: invalid gnome config path '=/section/key'

Segmentation fault (core dumped)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong ?
