Gnome and Red Hat 5.2

I seem to have done something very foolish. I installed the tarball of
Gnome off my Red Hat CD, then installed the packages in /redhat/i386/
from one of the ftp servers, without getting rid of any of the stuff
from the tarball. As can be expected, I am getting some odd errors.
For instance, when I run exec gnome-session, I am logged out of X
instead of starting anything. I can run panel & from within X, but it
is the old version of the panel (at least, it looks different than the
one in the screenshots :-). Is there any way to remove the tarball
files and reinstall Gnome 1.0?
Sincerely,
Ryan D. Lewis
