gnome doesn't work good.

Hi

I did a fresh install of RedHat 5.2 and downloaded all needed gnome files
and compiled and installed gnome. So far so good.

But gnome core dumps all the time, well maybe not gnome but a lot of gnome
apps. Control-center, Gnome Filemanager, menueditor, gtcd  and the panel
are the big problems I have. They core dump whenever they feel like. :(

Does anyone else have this kind of problem?
How stable is gnome?
Have I forgotten/missed anything?
Can anyone help me?

I'm running kernel 2.2.2.
