Thanks for the tips, Preben. But it still doesn't work for me :-(
I tried:
-patching WM 0.60 as you suggest
-configure with the three options, make & install
-rm ~/GNUstep, and recreate it with wmaker.inst
-setenv WINDOW_MANAGER wmaker, then start GNOME
-check "Disable Miniwindows" in the preferences applet
And I *still* have a row of Windowmaker icons at the bottom
of the screen. Ack!
So, what did I do wrong this time?
