glibtop fills .xsession-errors

Gnome ticket database rejected the following:

~/.xsession-errors grows to hundreds of megabytes (!) in size, due to
these lines being added every second:

also, who and *WHY* creates these directories: /.gnome/ and
/.gnome-private/?!  (yes, the directories are in the root directory!)
