Hello,
I have just about finished the new package install window for gnorpm (it
is a lot better IMHO). If you want to test it out, either checkout the
gnorpm module, or get the snapshot from
ftp://ftp.daa.com.au/pub/james/gnome/gnorpm-SNAP-19990602.tar.gz
A small list of the changes between 0.8 and this snapshot are:
- redesigned package install window. It sorts the packages in the list
by group, and displays them in a tree. It also primes the list with
the packages from a user configurable set of directories, excluding
packages that are already installed on the machine. It also colours
packages to indicate if they are newer or older than a package that is
already on the computer. It also gives a brief summary of the
currently highlighted package.
- removed the upgrade menu item and toolbar button. Replaced it by an
upgrade button in the install window.
- In the package info (query) windows, do not display the upgrade button
if there is no existing package by that name installed on the system.
- Added a download button to the web find dialog so that you can
download package without installing them.
I haven't added anything to the preferences dialog for the new
functionality, so you will have to either stick with the defaults, or read
the code and edit ~/.gnome/gnorpm. Also, you will get the best results
with the install dialog if you have a Red Hat CD mounted beforehand.
I am interested in any comments people may have about the interface
changes. I would like to have a good package install interface (the old
one was crap).
James Henstridge.
