I got rid of this issue today ... I noticed another error above this about
"unable to mkdir(/tmp/.ICE-unix) error 13.  I deleted this directory and
then gnome started up without the 113 error.  An interesting side effect of
this error is that you cannot exit gnome from the panel with logout - very
irritating.
