ANNOUNCE: Aspell .28, Gaspell .28, Aspell-Dicts .11

Aspell is an Open Source spell checker designed to eventually replace
Ispell. Its main feature is that it does a much better job of coming up
with possible suggestions than Ispell does. In fact recent tests shows
that it even does better than Microsoft Word 97's spell checker in some
cases. In addition it has both compile time and run time support for
other non English
languages. Aspell also doubles as a powerful C++ library with C and Perl
interfaces in the works.

Changes in version .28:

     * Static binaries now available for i386-linux and sparc-solaris
     * Provided an iterator for the replacement classes.
     * Added support for dumping and creating and merging the personal
       and replacement word lists.
     * Changed the aspell utility command line a bit, it now used popt.
     * Totally reworked aspell configuration system. Now aspell can get
configuration from any of 5 sources: the command line, the
environmental variable ASPELL_CONF, the personal configuration
file, the global configuration file, and finally the compiled in
       defaults.
     * Totally reworked the language class in preparation for my new
       language code. See
       http://metalab.unc.edu/kevina/aspell/international/ for more
information of what I have in store.
     * Added some options to the configure script:
       -language-enable-dict-dir=DIR, -enable-doc-dir=DIR,
-enable-debug,
       and -enable-opt
     * Removed some old header files.
     * Reorganized the directory structure a bit
     * Made the text version of the manual pages slightly easier to read
     * Used the \url command for urls for better formating of the
       printed version.

Gaspell is a Gnome frontend to Aspell.

Changes in version .28:

     * Fixed the code so that it would work with Aspell .28
     * Fixed the code so that it will provide an nice error message
if there is a problem at startup rather than just dumping core.
     * Reworked the command line options a bit

Aspell-Dicts is a package that provides alternate English dictionaries
for Aspell. It allows you to chose from three different varieties
(American, Alternate American, and British) and four different sizes
(small, medium, large, and extra-large).

Changes in version .11:

     * Fixed so that it would work with Aspell .28

All of these packages are available at the aspell home page:
http://metalab.unc.edu/kevina/aspell/

As always let me know if you have any trouble.

PS: Unless your question is specific to Gaspell or integration of Aspell
and Gnome please reply to the Aspell mailing list.
