the fix

i think the fix had something to do with:

rpm -Uvh gnome-core-1.0.7-1.i386.rpm gnome-core-develop-1.0.7-1.i386.rpm

after i ran that command,
and then ran

rpm -Uvh gnome-core-1.0.7-1.i386.rpm

all went well. as a matter of fact all the other packages upgraded fine
after that. plus, once i ran that initial command, and went to rpm -e
the older versions...rpm told me they were not installed! hmmmm ponderous?

thanks again gang!

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and
old people are useless.
