>From what I hear, SuSE 6.1 is broken in this respect -- they installed
gtk+ and gtk-engines under different prefixes.  I think they have gtk+
under /usr and gtk-engines under /opt/gnome (if I am mistaken, you may
have to adjust the paths in the instructions below). Now gtk+ expects to
find the theme engines under /usr/lib/gtk/themes/engines, but they are
installed under /opt/gnome/lib/gtk/themes/engines.

The easiest way to fix this is with a symlink.  The following command
should work:
  cd /usr/lib/gtk/themes
  ln -s /opt/gnome/lib/gtk/themes/engines

(if the /usr/lib/gtk/themes directory does not exist, create it first).
