Problem adding application launcher to panel.

Been trying to add the KDE email client to the pannel without success.  When I
try the usual RMB on the menu and select add this launcher to panel item, it
get's added just fine, and launches just fine, and looks just hunky dorry until
I logout and then log back in.  At which point the email client button get's
replaced by something else,  apparently whatever panel application I was
setting up last.  This behavior seems to be common to all KDE applications, it 
 still works fine for gnome or plain vanilla X applications.
