Announce: gnome-apt 0.3

Hi,

gnome-apt the Debian package manager is now packaged up. You can grab the
latest version by adding this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://www.debian.org/~mblevin/apt gnome-apt

Then apt-get update and apt-get install gnome-apt. Of course you'll need
to have apt-get installed. This will fetch all the .99.x Gnome .debs
gnome-apt depends on, newer version of the apt libraries, etc. Mitch
Blevins did a great job on the package and things seem to work well.

If you prefer to compile from scratch (if you're using tarballs or CVS for
Gnome, you will probably have to) see the instructions on the gnome-apt
web site,

http://www.debian.org/~hp/gnome-apt.html

This release should be very usable overall, with no show-stopping
glitches. There are two annoying bugs I already know about: libgnomeui's
popup menu support was busted between Jan 15 and Jan 19, when the debian
packages were made; this results in massive warnings from Gtk and the
popup menu behaves badly. However all functionality is also available
from the main menus. Bug #2 is in libapt-pkg, and results in some sort of
infinite loop when doing a text search for a package.

Otherwise you should be able to update, upgrade, browse and install/remove
packages with ease and grace. Upgrade from dselect today!

Please send bugs to apt@packages.debian.org. You might check the web site
first to see if the bug is known.

Havoc
