Try using the --disable-nls flag during configure.  This usually fixes
any problems for me and doesn't greatly effect the way the programs
work, for me.  The --disable-nls flag turns off internationalization
support which you can turn off safely, if you don't mind having to use
the programs in the default languages that they came in.
