gtk+ and gtk-engines slow

Hi!

  I'm using  the pixmap theme  with various  gnome apps, and  I've found
that the  gtk redraws the  windows so  many times. This  causes blinking
(glinting)  in  the  screen.  I   realized  this  for  example  in  some
gnome-control-center window  or the configuration windows  of the panel.
Can it be solved?
