gmc : still unusable

I am using RedHat 5.2, all the latest things from cvs 
about gnome (as of today) and here I have the same pb with gmc :

- if I destroy the desktop directory :


This GDB was configured as "i386-redhat-linux"...

- if I destroy only the symlink Home Directory : gmc stays stuck, the xterm 
it started from is dead (cannot use ctrl-c or ctrl-z), nothing apears on the
destop

- if I run it as root : in any case, the program stays stuck as previously described.

NOTE: the esound server is installed but I have no sound card so it complains it cannot connect but it doesn't look like this is the pb.


I am dying to find gmc back. Looks like some people can get 
at least something out of it. I have been out of it for month ...
