This is true for me also -- gnome-session has never worked on my (RH5.2,
using xdm as X manager) system. I log in, it churns for 10 seconds, then
pops me back out to the login prompt. xconsole doesn't show anything, and
.xsession-errors is likewise blank.

What can I do to help debug this?
