[GMC] directory tree display problem

Description of problem:

The folder icons in the left pane of gmc do not appear "open" when you click
on a folder with no child directories to view the contents in the right
pane.  The folder icons do appear "open" if you click on the plus sign by a
parent directory to expand the tree, or double-click a parent direcotry to
expand the tree.
