Trying to set panel background causes crash

Hey all!

I get a crash whenever I try to set the panel background. be it with "This Panel Properties" or using GMC Drag and Drop. Dig it:

I thought I might have an old version of GTK or GDK lying around but that does not appear to be the case. Anyone know what's causing this?
