Errors during ORBit compilation

Hi folks.

While running the autogen.sh, I noticed these two lines:  

  processing popt
  Makefile.am:19: library used but `LIBTOOL' not defined in
     `configure.in'  


And then later:

make[4]: Entering directory `/root/ORBit/popt/po'
make[4]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make[4]: Leaving directory `/root/ORBit/popt/po'
make[4]: Entering directory `/root/ORBit/popt'

/bin/sh: @LIBTOOL@: command not found

Other gnome packages seem to compile fine, so I'm not sure what's up.
I have libtool, of course.  Any ideas?
