little gnumeric build problem

When gnumeric is invoked with --dump-func=filename it needs to open a
display; I get:

$ cd /gnome/gnumeric-0.8 
$ export DISPLAY= 
$ configure ; make 
[snip]
Making all in doc make[2]: Entering directory `/mnt/new/gnome/gnumeric-0.8/doc' 
../src/gnumeric --dump-func-defs=func.defs

Gdk-WARNING **: cannot open display: 
make[2]: *** [func.defs] Error 1
[snip]

Of course, building in a xterm is O.K. Maybe this could be a problem for
auto-building scripts, etc. Hope it has not already been reported...
