Help with Glib-1.2.6

I have looked everywhere I can find docs on glib, and I cannot seem to
find any reference to why any package I run (./configure; make; make
install) on will not find the glib-configure script...
System: PII 450 Running fresh install of RedHat6 With, and without the
Xwindows system installed.
Please help.
