Xmodmap seems to be easier to use if you only want to modify your
keyboard.
For instance on a french keyboard, I need to press alt+X to get somme
char like \ or ~
So, I use xmodmap to remap the two superior without changinf anything in
the
system files.
I believe it a bad idea to modify under /etc as this directory is for
system config.
You have always to imagine that different user may use your box, and you
must not change
the system only for your personnal need.
If the keyboard is bad : change the system, if you want to remap some
key you have to
do it from your $HOME. I don't remember the file you have to change
under RH. Sorry
